I am the Ace of Spades,

the black heart.

Backwards and upside down,

cruel and conniving.

Lost in a paradise that is not my own,

forever striving to be a heart.

But can I really be something I am not.

With only the 2 as company,

the Suicide King, the Ugly Queen and the one-eyed Jack mock me.

Shuffled in with 52,

only to come out when pity shows it’s face.

Picked up only to be discarded again,

mangled by uncaring hands.

I stay,

the icy, black, content heart,

forever that is my role,

forever I will play that role.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

It haunts and it mocks,

the loneness of the Spade.

Forever alone.

But when the silence soaks in,

my heart melts away,

leaving me with only,

black, cold, misery.
